Elephant Hill with Marlin Sharpe et all. The National Park Service changed us up a little about how we run this trail. We have smaller groups that run about 30 min apart. That worked great for us. I was with a new group and was tail gunner for the first group. I learned again that I abhore CB radios (not the most reliable items) and really respect my HAM 2 meter. We were running simplex and could talk to everybody with a 2 meter whichever group they were in. This proved quite handy for me.
Doug Smith dealership from American Fork sponsored this trail. Dempsey Bowling is a good friend and was in the other group. We had our other rep with my group just ahead of me. (I have his dikes and I hope he gets a hold of me so I can return them---marbryson@gmail.com)
Here's the "turntable" part of going over the hill.
Where the black Jeep with rack is, you pull in, back around and then pull up the hill. This decreases stress on the road.
Up on top of Elephant Hill.
Off the hill. This really is a nice area.
Over another little spot.
Uh, this is my rig. this is not a good thing. Hydro assist hose bumped my crankshaft pulley.
Lots of trail clean up to do. I just routed the good hose back into the steering box and had to drive out with "normal" power steering. John Hall had a VERY convenient .50 cal ammo can to contain the spilled fluid/sand. I took probably more than I should have but wanted to be as clean as possible.
I did NOT have power steering. I'm pretty bushed after horsing those big tires over all the rocks and such on the way out. Changes are in store for this old dawg after this week's shenanigans. What they are, I don't know.
Thus ended our 2015 EJS experience. I was a gunner on Pritchett for big Sat. but knowing my front suspension would not be right, having a crossmember issue (found on inspection after we got it on the trailer at Elephant Hill) and getting my power steering back, I thought it wise to get with our trail registrars and bow out for big Sat. :(
